Trends and Stories:

Golden Slacks: Goldman Sachs has a long record of internal business flexibility and a willingness to change with the times. While the app described in this article is certainly interesting, Goldman’s overall fintech business strategy and execution are the things to watch.

From Libra to Plaid: Visa demonstrated some forward thinking by joining the Libra consortium last year...and then quietly abandoning it. But by acquiring Plaid, they are making a big statement about the evolving nature of the financial space.

Grabbing their pound of flesh: While North America’s UBER can’t seem to get out of it’s own way, Asian ride hailing company Grab is getting into...cloud kitchens?

Est vous pret? When a giant financial institution hires 2500 coders and starts talking fintech collaboration, you know the race is on.

Regulation and Research:

In case you missed it: This is the last opportunity to submit responses to the OSC Launchpad Survey: Regulatory and Capital Raising Challenges

Cyber security resource:  “The Cyber Security Body of Knowledge (CyBOK) provides a foundation for cyber security education, training and professional practice. It will be invaluable for academia, industry and Government.”

China’s Password Law?  In what is dubbed “China’s bestowing of legitimacy on blockchain”, cryptography will now be governed under China’s Password Law. The law will apparently protect “cryptography practitioners in the country to keep their business secrets and privacy, “ while also having “the right to monitor, investigate and prosecute an individual or a business unit that is found to engage in illegal activities and against state policies.”

Podcast: The podcast transcript has some golden insights on the differences between activities of strong and weak businesses going into and coming out of downturns. Stronger for longer: How top performers thrive through downturns
